Algen in Haagse museumvijver

Algae in The Hague

In 2007, we examined the ponds of the city museum of The Hague. The ponds around the museum building were covered with algal scum, which not only degraded its appearance but also created unpleasant odors.

With the aid of a small boat we took samples from across the ponds and had these analysed in a lab. We also examined ecological aspects of the ponds as well as the source of the water. Based on these analyses, we were able to advise the museum as to the most appropriate measures to improve water quality and to prevent future problems with algae.
