Species protection plan for the grass snake

The Dutch province of Utrecht has established a list of vulnerable species in order to help guide nature conservation in the region. The list details priority species for which action plans should be developed with the aim of improving the survival and protection of the species. The grass snake appeared on this list, so accordingly a species protection plan was established, which highlights the threats and describes potential protection measures.

The species protection plan for the grass snake was commissioned by the province of Utrecht. Concrete measures aimed at improving the survival of the grass snake in the region were outlined. The plan was drafted by ecologists at Bureau Waardenburg, in collaboration with Th. de Jong of Bureau Viridis. Data were provided by RAVON and for the IJmeer based on reasearch by P. de Wijer (Universiteit van Amsterdam).
