Insects

Butterflies, damselflies, dragonflies, grasshoppers and other insects are of great interest for nature management and policymakers. These species groups form important links in the functioning of ecosystems and can be indicative of the health of the ecosystem. The research and monitoring of insects is, therefore, widely used to obtain information about the quality of areas for nature and as indicators with which management plans can be assessed.
Some species of insects, in particular butterflies, damselflies, dragonflies and beetles, are protected under Dutch wildlife legislation. In areas where these species may be present it might be necessary to undertake investigations prior to the realisation of plans affecting that habitat.
At Bureau Waardenburg our experts can carry out investigations into the presence of these species and advise on how the habitat can be optimised for these important species.
