The Conference on Wind energy and Wildlife impacts comes to the Netherlands in 2021!

BuWa at the CWW

Fifth CWW in Scotland

During the last week of August, the fifth international Conference on Wind energy and Wildlife impacts (CWW) took place on the campus of the University of Stirling in Scotland. Some 350 participants were able enjoy the full and extremely interesting three-day programme of presentations about the effects of wind farms on birds, bats, marine mammals and even wolves, and how these effects are being investigated and, where possible, reduced.

BuWa well represented

As a proud ‘Gold’ sponsor, Bureau Waardenburg was well represented by ten members of staff. Marine ecologist Tom van der Have led a workshop on the restoration of underwater life in offshore wind farms in the North Sea, while bird ecologist Abel Gyimesi presented the results of research into the flight behaviour of tagged lesser black-backed gulls in the same wind farms. Radar ornithologist Jonne Kleyheeg-Hartman presented the results of the first ever study using a full 3D bird radar and the first steps to predicting nocturnal bird migration in wind farms. In addition to three poster presentations and our well-attended stand, we were also very proud of the large turnout at our ‘Dutch drinks’ evening that we organised together with the Dutch company Robin Radar. We hadn’t expected ‘Oranjebitter’ to compete so seriously with the Scottish whiskies ...

In 2021 the CWW comes to the Netherlands!

We were honoured by the invitation from the CWW’s scientific committee to organise the next edition in 2021 in the Netherlands, and we are happy to accept that challenge! We look forward to a conference with a lot of practical input and interaction between researchers, wind farm developers and governments. Make sure you put 2021 in your diary now!
