Amphibian tunnels along the Diefdijk

This research investigated the need for amphibian tunnels along a stretch of dyke in the Netherlands. This area along the Diefdijk is fairly small but is rich in amphibians. Work to strengthen the dyke has led to a number of studies investigating the presence of amphibians and the effect of the work on protected species. For the northern part of the dyke, measures were developed, including for amphibians, within the context of Natura 2000.

Previous reports highlighted the potential conflicts between amphibians and infra-stucture, most notably with regard to migration routes. The current investigation questioned the usefulness of amphibian tunnels along a stretch of the Diefdijk and looked further into the potential issue in this area.
