Impact assessment studies Modelling Because of their complexity natural systems are often simplified by the use of models. A model can serve as a valuable tool to obtain better insight into the functioning of a natural system, but it can also be used to make predictions.
Research in which modelling is regularly applied is, for example, foodweb studies, calculations of groundwater currents and studies involving ecohydrology.
